Ex-Texas QB drawing interest from Georgia in transfer portal

Former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy faces difficult decisions after entering the College Football Transfer Portal.

Murphy previously worked with Longhorns star Quinn Ewers, but he is now looking to showcase his talent elsewhere. USC, Georgia, and other schools are interested in the rookie quarterback.

Where will Maalik Murphy end up after spending a year in a Texas football uniform?

According to On3 Sports (h/t Pete Thamel), Murphy is attracting interest from a number of colleges, including USC, Georgia, South Carolina, Syracuse, Baylor, Oregon State, and Duke. Despite Texas’ appearance in the College Football Playoff, Murphy wants to explore his alternatives.

Although his stats are not as impressive as those of fellow QB Quinn Ewers, his contributions have allowed the Texas football team to prosper in the face of formidable competition. Murphy finished the season with 477 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also maintained a QBR of 46.0.

Given how the season has gone, two of Murphy’s top suitors, USC and Georgia, would be terrific matches. USC began the season as a CFP candidate, but a late losing run altered their intentions. Caleb Williams, the Trojans’ star quarterback, is slated to leave for the NFL draft. As a result, Murphy may have a chance.

Furthermore, for the better part of the last two years, the Georgia Bulldogs have been regarded as the greatest team in the country. However, a loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship ended their chances of making the College Football Playoff. There will surely be talent departing the Bulldogs for the NFL Draft. Maalik Murphy also has the experience from his time at Texas to play for such a famous program.

Fans are wondering which of their teams will obtain Murphy’s services as College Football Transfer Portal rumors flare up.
