Ex Oregon player LB commits to North Texas

Jake Shipley, a former Oregon outside linebacker, will continue his career in the AAC.

Shipley confirmed his commitment to North Texas on Monday, after entering the transfer portal earlier this month. He still has one year of eligibility left.

Shipley, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 255 pounds, has seven tackles (1.5 for loss) this season. In 2022, he recorded five tackles in 11 games and three in seven games. In 2020, he did not play.

Shipley, a three-star prospect, was ranked 929th overall and 43rd among strong-side defensive ends in the 2020 class by the 247Sports Composite.

Shipley is the ninth UO scholarship player to commit to a new school this offseason, joining receivers Ashton Cozart (SMU) and Kris Hutson (Washington State), safety Bryan Addison (UCLA), cornerback Trikweze Bridges (Florida), defensive back Cole Martin (Arizona State), running back Dante Dowdell (Nebraska), quarterback Ty Thompson (Tulane), and defensive lineman Tevita Pome’e.
