Ex Ohio State star slams current state of bowl games after Florida State’s embarrassing loss to Georgia.
One former Ohio State player feels Florida State’s humiliating loss in the 2023 Orange Bowl exemplifies why bowl games now “suck.”

Florida State went into Saturday’s highly anticipated Orange Bowl matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs with mixed emotions. Despite being undefeated in 13 regular-season games and winning the ACC Conference Championship, the college football playoff committee judged them ineligible for this year’s tournament.
Georgia was also left out of the four-team tournament despite having only one loss in 2023 and having won the last two national championships in collegiate football. The Bulldogs roster, on the other hand, took the disappointment considerably differently from the Seminoles. FSU was missing 23 players on Saturday due to plans to enter the 2024 NFL Draft and the transfer portal.
Unsurprisingly, with the majority of their roster from this season, Georgia annihilated the short-handed Florida State squad in the Orange Bowl by a score of 63-3. It was a pitiful performance in a game that many regarded as the best showdown of the bowl season outside of the college football playoffs.

With bowl game names becoming more bizarre and matchups losing relevance as athletes not only prepare for the next level but also attempt to transfer to other teams, one former college football star turned to Twitter to criticize the present condition of bowl games.
During Florida State’s disappointing 42-7 halftime loss to Georgia, former Ohio State Buckeyes standout and first-round NFL Draft pick Garrett Wilson took to his X account to declare, “Bowl games suck.” “There was a time when it meant something.”
Many college football fans have expressed this sentiment in recent years, especially as the transfer site has a stronger impact on the sport shortly after the regular season concludes. At the very least, the playoffs should improve as they increase from four to twelve teams in 2024.
