Ex-Manchester City star discusses why Vieira against Burnley deserved to be sent off

After being substituted in for Arsenal’s match against Burnley today, Fabio Vieira was quickly shown the red card.

When Vieira entered the game to make an impact, the Gunners were leading 2-1 and had won the match 3-1.

Oleksandr Zinchenko eventually gave them another goal, but Vieira was dismissed for a high-foot challenge nine minutes later after receiving a straight red card.

The midfield player looked shocked; his high foot was considered dangerous even though it didn’t seem malicious.

Nedum Onuoha, a former player for Manchester City, provided commentary during the match and outlined why the foul called for a sending-off.

He clarified on BBC:

“Fabio Vieira’s challenge is not very good.

“He is putting the opponent in danger, but there isn’t really any intent there. Even just watching the replay of it hurts me.

“I’m curious to hear Mikel Arteta’s thoughts on that one following the game.”

Even though the midfielder did not intend to hurt the player, Vieira’s high foot looked extremely dangerous, so it was worth sending the player off.

Although it’s unclear if we will appeal the ruling, he will grow from it and play better in his upcoming games.
