Ex-Burnley and Newcastle man fired by League One side
The former England international has been relieved of his duties at the League One club.
After three years in charge, Joey Barton, a former player for Newcastle United and Burnley, was fired as Bristol Rovers’ manager.
During his playing career, Barton represented Burnley, Manchester City, Rangers, and England. He joined Rovers in 2021.
On the last day of his first full season in command, the 41-year-old guided the team to promotion. However, with Bristol Rovers currently in 16th place in League One, he has been dismissed of his duties.
Rovers have won four league games this season and dropped points in just one of their past five games.
“Bristol Rovers Football Club can confirm that the club has relieved First Team Manager Joey Barton of his duties today,” the statement from the club stated.
“Everyone at the club is grateful to Joey for his hard work and wishes him continued success.
“In the interim, Andy Mangan will lead the team supported by Glenn Whelan, Danny Ventre and Anssi Jaakkola who will remain in post.”
