Ex-Birmingham City talent who bets Jude Bellingham’s record sees ‘dream come true’

This time last year, the name Trevan Sanusi was a hot subject in Birmingham City’s power structures.

Sanusi, 16, was one of two standouts in the Blues’ under-16 squad, the other being Romelle Donovan, who made ten first-team appearances in 2023/24. Sanusi, a fleet-footed forward, began to appear in first-team squads at the close of the 2022/23 season and would have beaten Jude Bellingham’s record as the club’s youngest player if he had made it off the bench.

John Eustace did not give Sanusi first-team minutes, and the adolescent refused to accept his scholarship. Instead, Sanusi joined big-spending Newcastle United and has spent the majority of this season alternating between their under-18 and under-21 sides.

Sanusi is claimed to have pleased Newcastle manager Eddie Howe this season, earning invitations to first-team training. However, a knee injury sustained last month curtailed Sanusi’s chances of making his first-team debut before the end of the season.

Newcastle have rewarded him with a professional contract just a few weeks after his 17th birthday.

Sanusi told newcastleunited.com that signing his first professional contract was overwhelming and a dream come true because he had been striving for it his entire life. I’m incredibly excited to keep pushing and proving to everyone who gave me the deal.

“I remained humble and did not expect it. I continued to work hard until I received the contract, which I now have, but I will not stop working. I see a very strong road in the academy and hope to make it into the first team. I believe in myself and strive to perform to the best of my ability, following in the footsteps of others who have done so this season.

“I’d say my best memories this season would be scoring my first goal for the under-21s as well as playing in the UEFA Youth League, winning away at Paris Saint-Germain.”
