Ex Alabama DB Reps Opponent School To Cheer Lane Kiffin Ahead Of Kalen Deboer

Marlon Humphrey, a former defensive back for Alabama, wishes that his alma institution had chosen a different candidate to succeed Nick Saban.

Following practice in front of Sunday’s AFC Championship, he represented a rival school to show his support for a different name than Kalen DeBoer.

The 27-year-old was donning an Ole Miss hoodie. Humphrey desired that Lane Kiffin be tapped by the Crimson Tide.

An Alabama alumnus sporting the emblem of a fellow SEC West team is strange, if you know anything about the workings of the Southeastern Conference. There is animosity between the Rebels and the Crimson Tide. With the exception of the Egg Bowl, the latter has surpassed the former as its largest game of the season in recent years.

Nonetheless, Humphrey performed in Tuscaloosa between 2014 and 2016. Under Saban, Lane Kiffin was the offensive coordinator at the same time.

The first-round pick from Baltimore in 2017 will always ride with Alabama, but he still harbors affection for his old coach. Wearing the emblem of the team that defeated him at home as a sophomore and on the road as a freshman seems to be a sign of genuine love.

Lane is my guy, but I still bleed crimson. I still bleed crimson.

— Marlon Humphrey

Humphrey’s attire also carried a subliminal message. In addition to expressing his support for Kiffin, he also expressed his hope that Ole Miss’s head coach will succeed his former boss, the all-time great college football coach, at Alabama.

This is for my guy Lane Kiffin. I wanted him to be the Bama coach. I told him he should come to Bama. But then like an hour later, they already hired the new coach.

— Marlon Humphrey

That really is a bold statement! In addition to wanting Kiffin to succeed Saban, Humphrey wore an Ole Miss pullover and either forgot DeBoer’s name or declined to call him by name.

It is clear that Marlon Humphrey has certain prejudices against Kiffin. He is never had a game for DeBoer.

Still. I think that says pretty much everything about his impression of the hire, is not it?
