Mason Holgate will leave Everton permanently this summer, according to Patrick Boyland.

According to The Athletic website (9 July), the 27-year-old is “likely to depart” Goodison Park, joining fellow defender Ben Godfrey.

With Jarrad Branthwaite also interested in Manchester United, Sean Dyche may look for a new central defender, however target Jacob Greaves seems expected to join Ipswich instead.

Everton open to Mason Holgate transfer exit

There was always going to be a lot of upheaval at Goodison Park this summer, and defence was anticipated to bear the brunt of it.

However, Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young have signed new contracts to stay, and with bids for Branthwaite rejected [The Times, 9 July], it appears that we will remain rather than move to Old Trafford.

But Michael Keane is a wanted man, and after spending last season with two different clubs other than the Toffees, it appears that Sean Dyche does not have Holgate in his plans for the 2024/25 season.

A permanent exit makes the most sense as he enters the final year of his contract, but a loan may be the best option given his recent poor play.

Nobody will be sad to see him go, and if the funds raised as a result of his departure help the club to strengthen, that can only be a good thing.
