ESPN: Colts’ standout running back delivers an optimistic injury update

A dynamic Indianapolis Colts playmaker hopes to return for Sunday’s critical game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor returned to practice Thursday after missing the team’s last three games due to surgery on his right thumb on Nov. 29.

“First day, full speed,” Taylor said, per ESPN’s Stephen Holder. “Of course, everything we’ve been doing has been [in the] training room and controlled. But [practice is] full speed. You’ve got full velocity on the ball; you’ve got guys coming after the ball. It’s going to be a big day.”

Taylor did not promise to play. He stated that his status will be determined by his ball security. The 24-year-old may also want to be cautious, considering he missed the opening four games of the season due to an ankle ailment.

The Colts (8-6) are on a roll and in the midst of the postseason chase.

However, injuries to key contributors jeopardize their postseason hopes. RB Zack Moss (forearm) is doubtful and did not practice Wednesday. He leads the club in running yards (764 in 13 games). WR Michael Pittman Jr. (concussion) is also questionable and was restricted in practice on Wednesday.

According to oddschecker, Indianapolis is a one-point underdog as of Thursday. If the Colts lose to Atlanta (6-8), their postseason odds drop from 54% to 37%, according to the New York Times simulator.

Taylor would give an offensive punch and help the Colts pull off an upset against the Falcons. On 100 tries, the former First-Team All-Pro has ran for 414 yards and four touchdowns in seven games.
