ESPN: Chiefs make a substantial change on Rashee Rice’s status

Rashee Rice has kept his distance from the Kansas City Chiefs since he was arrested in March, but the wide receiver is officially back in the building.

Rice will attend organized team activities with the Chiefs this week and take part in all aspects of the program, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Rice had previously participated in meetings and workouts electronically, so this is a significant adjustment. It’s also unexpected given what’s occurred to Rice this summer.

Rice is charged with eight felonies for his alleged involvement in a March multi-vehicle car crash. Rice was allegedly racing another automobile along the freeway at high speeds when he lost control of his vehicle, resulting in a catastrophe with several injuries. Rice and several other people fled the scene.

Rice was charged with punching a photojournalist outside a nightclub in Dallas, Texas, just two weeks earlier. The 24-year-old is being probed for the alleged event, and the specifics are frightening.

Rice is also facing a number of civil actions stemming from the incident. The Chiefs are reportedly bracing for a lengthy suspension for star wide receiver, but they are allowing him to work out with the club in the meanwhile.
