The official announcement of one of Georgia’s best defenders for the 2024 season comes from the football program.

Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson has officially entered the transfer portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, marking the end of his time with the Bulldogs.

Dumas-Johnson is going to become one of the transfer portal’s most sought-after defenders right away. In Athens, Georgia, he recorded 125 tackles, 17.0 TFLs, and 9.5 sacks. Due to an injury, he has missed the last four games for his side.

Jamon Dumas-Johnson: Massive Production with Georgia Football

Jamon Dumas-Johnson, a top linebacker prospect from Baltimore, Maryland, joins the Georgia football program in 2021. As a true freshman, the 6-foot-1, 235-pound defender had 21 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 2.0 sacks, and an interception. In 2022, he claimed the starting spot after putting up monster numbers for the undefeated Bulldogs. In 15 games, he has 70 tackles, 9.0 TFLs, 4.0 sacks, and one forced fumble. During the College Football Playoff, Dumas-Johnson had four tackles and a sack.

Dumas-Johnson had a forearm injury this season, limiting the second-year defender to just nine appearances in 2023. He had started the previous 24 Georgia games. He has 34 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 3.5 sacks on the season. His greatest game of the season came against the Kentucky Wildcats in early October, when he recorded four tackles, 1.5 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks.

Georgia Bulldogs: Immediate Replacements for Dumas-Johnson

After Dumas-Johnson suffered a forearm injury in Week 10, freshmen C.J. Allen and Raylen Wilson took over. Allen had a strong game, recording 35 tackles and a sack. During his team’s final four games, he had 22 tackles. Wilson recorded only six tackles during that time period, giving Allen the most reps. Meanwhile, Smael Mondon Jr., another inside linebacker, has 68 tackles in 2023. He finished with 5.0 TFLs and 3.0 sacks.
