Eddrick Houston, an Ohio State signee, shares his story of a last-minute decision

During the 2024 recruiting cycle, the Ohio State Buckeyes experienced a number of significant moments.

There has been a lot to talk about, from Jeremiah Smith’s choice, which caused coach Ryan Day to fake faint at the stage while speaking to the media, to the Armstrong twins’ commitment to the offensive line.

Now, 2024 four-star EDGE Eddrick Houston of Buford (Georgia) is adding another chapter to the story, detailing in an interview with Eleven Warriors how the process unfolded when he formally decided to sign with Ohio State on December 20.

Now, 2024 four-star EDGE Eddrick Houston of Buford (Georgia) is adding another chapter to the story, detailing in an interview with Eleven Warriors how the process unfolded when he formally decided to sign with Ohio State on December 20.

“It was crazy because I had to sign (my National Letter of Intent) too, and I heard (Day) was in the middle of an interview,” Houston told Eleven Warriors in an exclusive interview. “So, I did not want to interrupt.

But my high school coach called him up as I was coming to the podium and informed him that I was staying with Ohio State.” Houston had offers from programs including as Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, USC, Florida State, and others.

Despite committing to OSU on August 22, 2023, 247Sports predicted Alabama would land Houston before Nick Saban’s retirement, but the Buckeyes prevailed even before the Tide’s new head coach.

“It was definitely hard,” Houston remarked. “Just thinking about everything that could have gone wrong. However, I was forced to turn off my phone for the past 24 hours. Because I was getting so many calls.

But by Signing Day, I knew where I wanted to go. “And I stuck to it.” Related: OFFICIAL: Ohio State Signs Five-Star Edge Eddrick.

Houston Day and the Buckeyes will most certainly have more fake fainting moments after seeing how productive Houston can be next season. In 2023 with Buford, he had 45 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, ten quarterback hits, five forced fumbles, and one pass breakup.
