Eddie Murphy wears a new Detroit Lions jacket while filming scenes

Eddie Murphy returned to the set of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F to film new scenes with Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Filming began in August 2022 and ended in early 2023, therefore the picture could be having reshoots or the stars are filming promotional material.

The first trailer for the sequel was released by Netflix last month, indicating that it would be released this summer, though no exact date has been revealed.

Murphy was dressed in a new Detroit Lions jacket, similar to the one Axel Foley wore throughout the successful film franchise.

In one photo, he was seen resting against a cherry red BMW, wearing light blue pants and white Adidas sneakers.

Another image showed him getting into a van while wearing the same jeans and sneakers but a navy blue coat and a red shirt.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was seen wearing a white striped dress shirt and tie underneath a black fur-lined coat.

At this moment, there is no indication that these potential reshoots will influence the intended Summer 2024 release date.

For decades, there has been talk of a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film, with many writers and directors coming and going.

The original picture, which took Detroit detective Axel Foley (Murphy) from Detroit to Beverly Hills to solve his best friend’s murder, celebrates its 40th anniversary in December.

The original was a huge hit, generating $234.7 million from a $13 million budget, with an additional $81.6 million from overseas markets for a total of $316.3 million worldwide.

When adjusted for inflation, the film would be worth $693.6 million today, which is more than the previous year’s highest-grossing film, Barbie ($636.2 million).

For over two decades, the first Beverly Hills Cop also held the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, with $234.7 million, until The Matrix Reloaded surpassed it in 2003.

The successful first film prompted the 1987 sequel Beverly Hills Cop II, which grossed $153.6 million domestically but $146.3 million in other countries for a total of $299.9 million globally.

The third picture, Beverly Hills Cop III, flopped at the box office, grossing $42.6 million domestically and $76.5 million internationally for a total of $119.2 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.

Several versions of the idea were developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with Brett Ratner (Tower Heist) engaged to direct at one point.

The project was then recast as a CBS TV series in 2011, centering on Axel Foley’s son Aaron (Brandon T. Jackson), a rookie cop in the Beverly Hills Police Department.

While a pilot episode was shot, CBS eventually decided not to bring it to series. Murphy was slated to executive produce and act as Axel.

Ratner returned to directing in late 2013, but neither that film nor another with filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life) saw production.

El Arbi and Fallah were replaced by Mark Molloy in April 2022, after being affiliated for six years, with filming finally beginning in August 2022.

Will Beall (Aquaman), Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), and Kevin Etten (Ghosted) write the script, which Molloy directs.
