Eddie Gray and David O’Leary respond to question on promotion battle

Leeds United’s victory over Middlesbrough came just when they needed it most. It now puts more pressure on Ipswich Town, who will not play until after Leeds return to action.

Leeds returns to second position with the win, which was gained thanks to goals from Willy Gnonto and Patrick Bamford, as well as a brace from Crysencio Summerville. The Whites overtook Ipswich and moved into second place.

Of course, Leeds have played more games than their three promotion rivals. Leicester still leads with 91 points, one ahead of Leeds, despite having played only 43 points. Tonight, the Foxes host Southampton.

Ipswich will not play again until Saturday, when they travel to Hull City. Leeds have a real chance to take advantage and move four points clear of Ipswich before their next game, which is a tough one.

Eddie Gray confident Leeds United can finish in the top two

Going into the game against Boro, automatic promotion seemed unlikely, but there is now a chance Leeds will finish in the top two by the end of the season. Especially now that Summerville is back at his best.

Leeds veteran Eddie Gray was asked on TalkSPORT this morning (23/04, 7.40AM) if he believes the Whites will be promoted automatically, to which he replied that Leicester have the advantage.

“I’m convinced we’ll get results. They can still catch us, but our team is playing with a lot of confidence. We can beat any club in the league, but at this point, you never know what will happen.

“This happened versus Blackburn. Leicester has the advantage, but we can still win games. “The players are playing well, with confidence,” Elland Road legend Gray remarked of Leeds’ chances of promotion.

What David O’Leary said when asked if the Whites will go up

Leeds take on QPR on Friday night. They face a team full of confidence after defeating Preston 1-0. With two games remaining, London is four points above the relegation zone.

O’Leary, who led Leeds to the Champions League semi-finals, believes the Premier League is better with Leeds in it. On TalkSPORT (23/04, 9:13AM), he expresses hope that his old side may cross the finish line.

I watched the game last night. Absolutely excellent. Excellent three points. They are in a similar position in the Championship (as Arsenal is in the Premier League), alongside Ipswich, Leicester, and Leeds.

Two major clubs are on the rise. When the club performs admirably, the city appears to be happier. I believe they are an excellent fit for the Premier League. Excellent help. They’re a Premier League club. I hope they cross the line.”
