Done Deal: Twins player signed a $24 million deal with rival

Maeda will remain in the AL Central in 2024 thanks to the rumored arrangement.

Kenta Maeda and the Twins are not yet done together. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the veteran right-hander, who became a free agency following the Phillies’ World Series victory, has agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract with the Detroit Tigers.

Maeda has played with the Twins for the last four seasons. He was sidelined by injury in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, but he did come second in the AL Cy Young ballot during the Covid-shortened 2020 season.

This past season, the 35-year-old made 20 starts, recorded a 4.23 ERA, and struck out 117 batters in 104.1 innings.

Several 2023 Twins starters are anticipated to sign with other teams besides Maeda. After missing out on the Cy Young award to Gerrit Cole, Sonny Gray turned down his $20 million option to remain with the Twins and is currently being chased as a free agent.

The current lineup for Minnesota’s 2024 starting lineup is Chris Paddack, Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, and Pablo Lopez.
