Done Deal: Burnley striker signs new long-term contract

Lyle Foster, a striker, will remain with Burnley until the summer of 2028 after agreeing to a new five-year contract at Turf Moor, the club confirmed.

During the January transfer window, the 23-year-old made the switch from Belgian Pro League team Westerlo to England, making his FA Cup debut against Ipswich Town.

In the previous season, Foster made 11 appearances and scored once for the Championship-winning Clarets under Vincent Kompany, who finished ahead of Sheffield United in second place.

In addition, the forward plays frequently for his country, South Africa, where he has netted four goals in 13 appearances since making his debut in April 2018.

Prior to Burnley’s trip to Bournemouth, another struggling team, the Clarets revealed that Foster had signed a new contract in Lancashire.

With a strong start to the season, the former Monaco player committed his long-term future to the top-tier newcomers by signing a new five-year contract at Turf Moor.

With three goals in seven games this season, Foster leads Burnley in goals scored in the Premier League as the Clarets attempt to stave off an early return to the Championship.

After deciding to stay longer at Turf Moor, Foster spoke on the club’s official website, expressing his happiness and satisfaction with his time in England after arriving earlier in the year.

“I’m thrilled to be staying here. “I’m happy to extend my stay because this is a great club with wonderful people,” Foster told the reporters following the signing of a new contract.

“Everything here, Turf Moor, the supporters. I fell in love with the way we organize ourselves and our standards. I want to be a part of this club since it strives for greatness.”

Foster’s team has failed to get points since returning to the top division, now languishing in the bottom three, despite their bright start to the season. Nevertheless, the South African remains optimistic that the Clarets can turn things around.

“I’m making an effort to maintain my concentration and work ethic. Foster said earlier this week, “I think we will get stronger as time goes on. It’s a long season with lots of tough games.”

We anticipate a successful season. The team, the coaches, and everyone else in the building have my full faith and confidence. There’s no reason to worry. “Enjoy what we’re doing, and success will follow.”

Foster was supposed to lead Burnley’s assault against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon at the Vitality Stadium, but he was unable to play because of illness.

On Wednesday night, the Clarets will play the EFL Cup at Goodison Park, where Foster might return to the mix and help lead his team into the fourth round.
