Done Deal: Birmingham City Make A Permanent Deal Of Top Star

Birmingham City has signed Alfie May on a permanent basis for an unknown amount.

After a first bid was rejected, the striker submitted a written transfer request last week. The Addicks accepted a new bid over the weekend, and in an emotional message to Charlton fans, May said that being closer to his young family was a big factor in his choice.

He stated, “It’s a difficult decision for me because I’m leaving my hometown, but it’s football, and I’m doing it for my family. Hopefully, I leave on good terms. It has only been a year, yet it is one that I will never forget. I’d like to thank everyone for their love and support since I initially signed.”

Manager Nathan Jones stated, “Our focus is coming out of this transfer window significantly stronger than it was at the start of the window.” We understand Alfie’s reasons for wanting to leave, and we’ve been able to achieve a fantastic deal for the club, allowing us to reinvest in adding quality to our squad.”

May joined the Addicks from Cheltenham Town in July 2023 and played 50 games in all competitions, scoring 27 goals, 23 of which came in Sky Bet League One, earning him the division’s Golden Boot trophy. The 30-year-old was awarded EFL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards, made the EFL League One Team of the Season, and won the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

“Alfie did well for the club and myself last season,” Jones told reporters. “He worked hard throughout and scored some crucial goals, so we wish him all the best for the future.”

Everyone at the club agrees with Nathan Jones’ thoughts and wishes Alfie all the best in the future.
