Lions adding depth ahead of second week of preseason.

The Detroit Lions are allegedly adding depth to their offensive line and linebacker positions ahead of the second week of the NFL preseason.

According to sources, the Lions aim to sign linebacker Abraham Beauplan and offensive lineman Jamarco Jones. Both players will add depth after the Lions suffered multiple injuries in their preseason opener against the New York Giants.

Lions offensive tackle Connor Galvin has reportedly sustained a torn MCL and will require season-ending surgery, necessitating the need for depth at the tackle position. Jones has played both guard and tackle and has appeared in 36 career games since joining the league as a fifth-round choice of the Seahawks in 2018.

Jones played college football at Ohio State and has a history of injuries. As a rookie, he suffered a high-ankle sprain and was placed on injured reserve. He was troubled by injuries throughout his stint with the Seahawks until departing for Tennessee in 2022.

Jones was considered a favorite to start on the offensive line after an injury cut short his season in 2022. However, he was removed from training camp in 2023 after starting two fights. The Titans’ coach, Mike Vrabel, had a zero-fighting rule and fired the offensive lineman the day after kicking him out of practice.

Beauplan, 24, spent last season on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad after going undrafted. He played collegiately for two years at Navarro College before moving to Marshall.

Beauplan totaled 231 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and one interception over three years at Marshall. Detroit had also been suffering with linebacker injuries, with Malcolm Rodriguez missing practice and the preseason opener.

Detroit will play its second preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
