The Detroit Lions released linebacker Malik Jefferson off injured reserve on Friday following an injury settlement.

Jefferson took seven snaps in last week’s victory over the Kansas City Chiefs before leaving with a finger injury. The Lions placed Jefferson, who appeared in three games for the Dallas Cowboys last season, on injured reserve Monday.

Jefferson was on the roster bubble prior to his injury.

By releasing Jefferson with an injury settlement, the Lions have the option to re-sign him later in the season, three weeks after his settlement expires.

The Lions’ preseason concludes Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to determine their initial 53-man roster.
