Detroit releases Antoine Green and adds a quarterback.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions expanded their quarterback depth with a flurry of roster movements.

The Lions have signed quarterback Jake Fromm and linebacker Ty Summers. Detroit waived injured wide receiver Antoine Green and released offensive lineman Ike Boettger.

Green, a seventh-round pick in 2023, suffered a concussion in the first preseason game. In his debut season, the North Carolina product only caught one pass for five yards. He competed for a roster place alongside Daurice Fountain, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Kaden Davis, and Maurice Alexander, among others.

Fromm is the team’s newest quarterback, replacing 2023 third-round selection Hendon Hooker, who suffered a concussion in the preseason opener against the New York Giants. He attended Georgia and was drafted in the fifth round by the Buffalo Bills in 2020.

The Georgia product made his only two career starts for the Giants in 2021, going 27-for-60 for 210 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in three games. Hooker’s availability for Saturday’s preseason game is uncertain, so Fromm will provide organizational depth.

Summers is a newcomer to the linebacker room. He will also provide depth after Malcolm Rodriguez missed Sunday’s practice, as well as the second joint practice and preseason opener against the Giants.

Summers, a TCU product, was drafted in the seventh round by the Green Bay Packers in 2019 and has appeared in 67 career games. Summers has previously played for the New Orleans Saints and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Boettger was released after signing prior to training camp. The Iowa product served as a reserve offensive lineman.
