Detroit Lions Head Coach Calls Week 17 Loss A “Blessing”

The Detroit Lions are coming off one of the most contentious games in recent memory.

They were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys after attempting three consecutive two-point conversions. Head Coach Dan Campbell has been open about his thoughts about the game and his “fury” that must be contained as the regular season winds down.

Campbell has made a few notable remarks this week, and he is now singing a tune that this loss was a godsend for the club because it will get them upset and ready for the postseason, and he just could be correct.

Detroit Lions’ Dan Campbell Says The Loss Is A Blessing

In a recent press conference, Coach Campbell stated that he wants the squad to utilize this as fuel and turn it into motivation until they arrive at the tournament. He stated:

“We walked away, packed our bags and left. This one, we got a taste of what that’s like, but we’ve still got a chance. We haven’t even started the tournament. So, this is a — I think it’s a blessing. And I would tell fans, ‘Don’t do it. Don’t even believe that.’ We’re just getting started.”

He continued to make certain that everyone understood his reasoning behind what he was saying, because most of us at home would be wondering how this loss could be considered a blessing. He went on to explain this saying:

“We were in it, we were in a tight game, had a chance to win it, we weren’t able to and so now you know what that’s like,” Campbell said. “You know what that feels like, and you can’t let that opportunity slip, man. You don’t know when that play’s going to be made. Could be the first quarter, second quarter, right before halftime, so that’s why.”

He might be right, and the squad will have to utilize that as fuel, because it’s always important to find extra motivation and “take things personally” going into the playoffs to give yourself every extra edge you can. The way Campbell coaches, this may well be a blessing in disguise, because if they play the Dallas Cowboys again, they will have even more desire to make things right.
