Despite winning the Rugby World Cup, Kevin Sinfield will depart England; a replacement has been chosen

It has been claimed that Kevin Sinfield will be leaving the England team following the Rugby World Cup.

Less than a year after being appointed by the RFU, England defensive coach Kevin Sinfield is reportedly planning to step down from his position following the Rugby World Cup. After the legendary rugby league player excelled in his debut season as a coach at Leicester Tigers, he accompanied Steve Borthwick to England in December of last year.

While a number of England players have praised Sinfield as a skilled motivator, he lacks the expertise needed to have a major impact on the international scene. Only ten months after being drafted in with Borthwick, he is predicted to depart the England team following this weekend’s bronze medal match against Argentina, according to The Telegraph.

The former England defense coach Paul Gustard is rumored to have been contacted about coming back before the Six Nations tournament the following year. The 47-year-old turned over the opportunity to compete in the Rugby World Cup four years ago in order to take over as head coach of the Harlequins. He had previously worked under Eddie Jones.

During his time at Saracens, Gustard was tight with Borthwick, and it has been claimed that the England manager has been reaching out to him for early discussions in recent weeks. During his tenure at Sarries, he was known for his unconventional teaching approach, which included bringing real wolves into the training program.

While he was with the Premiership club, he installed a life-size bear model in the Harlequins’ dressing room and called his substitutes “gamechangers.” In 2021, he departed from Twickenham Stoop to become the forwards coach at Stade Francais, a French team, where he is still employed now.

In the interim, it is unclear what Sinfield’s future holds once his exit from the England team is officially announced. Throughout his tenure as defense coach, the team’s defensive stats have steadily improved, but it appears like Borthwick is seeking to take a different approach as the dust settles on their Rugby World Cup semifinal exit.

England center back after giving a tough team talk after their loss to Fiji at Twickenham earlier this year, Freddie Steward recently hailed Sinfield with raising the bar. “We got a bit of a rocket after that game,” he stated. That was accepted; it was a necessary occurrence.

We required a really thorough assessment, and I believe we benefited from it. That was the necessary outcome. Because of this, Kev is an excellent defense coach and a true inspiration. He inspires us so much and is the kind of guy you don’t want to disappoint. That speaks volumes about him as a person.

“You go out there and you do it in part for him. You don’t want to witness a man like that, who gives his all to us in his profession, feeling let down by his defense.”
