Despite star in discussions to join Mourinho, agent explains why Nottingham Forest’s £8 million bid was unsuccessful

Michele di Gregorio, a goalkeeper for Monza and Serie A, has said through his agent that a summer transfer to the Premier League was never planned for the Nottingham Forest target.

Prior to settling on the shot-stopping tandem of Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos, who have come to the City Ground from Benfica and Arsenal respectively, Nottingham Forest looked at a wide range of other goalkeeping prospects.

They turned to look at now-Inter Milan player Emil Audero.

According to Guglielmo Vicario’s father, Forest also expressed interest in him before to the £17 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Then there was Michele di Gregorio as well.

Gianluca di Marzio, an Italian journalist, claims that Forest made an offer of £8 million for Di Gregorio but that the 26-year-old from Milan ultimately signed a new deal with an aspirational Monza team.

Wanted by Nottingham Forest Gregorio, Michele

“The flattery from the Premier League is nice,” agent Carlo Alberto Belloni says to Twitch. But we always had our sights set on staying in Monza last summer. For another season, at least.

And Monza is where Di Gregorio remains. For the time being, at least.

Roma has previously planned to use the former Inter Milan prospect in goal in 2024, Calciomercato reports, to replace the increasingly unreliable Rui Patricio.

There have been preliminary discussions with Di Gregorio’s crew. But that can wait for now.

Belloni continues, the seventh-placed Biancorossi soaring high, “Monza is the right environment for Di Gregorio and the results can be seen.” He puts up consistent effort.

At Forest, Matt Turner is in charge.

Despite nervous moments and concerns over his distribution, Matt Turner presently holds the number one shirt at Nottingham Forest. A component that led to Arsenal selling him.

Contrarily, Vlachodimos has yet to establish himself under Steve Cooper. The former target for Manchester United must wait it out on the sidelines.
