Derby County’s Ben Osborn might be back in contention for this weekend’s game, according to DerbyshireLive.

Derby County pulled out the versatile 30-year-old from their last game against Bristol City, which ended 3-0. Kenzo Goudmijn, Kayden Jackson, and David Ozoh all scored for them against the Robins at Pride Park.

Osborn, who is from Derby, has a calf ailment but will use the current international break to get back up to speed. The Rams return to play this weekend, hosting Cardiff City, hoping to make it two victories in a row.

According to DerbyshireLive’s latest selection update, Osborn’should’ be available again, which would be a boost for Paul Warne’s side. However, it is unclear at this time whether he will be able to start the game.

Derby County injury latest

Derby County had six points from their first four encounters. They beat Middlesbrough and Bristol City at home, but lost to Blackburn Rovers and Watford away.

Osborn’s return would be fantastic news for them, as they try to make it three wins in a row at home against Cardiff City. He can play in midfield or as a left wing back if necessary.

The former England youth international was on the Rams’ books as a teenager before joining rivals Nottingham Forest in 2003.

He progressed through the academy ranks at The City Ground and became a fixture for the Reds at various youth levels.

Osborn went on to play 230 games for the first team, scoring 16 goals.

Sheffield United came knocking in 2019, luring him to the Premier League for the first time in his career.

He appeared 134 times for the Blades and scored five goals during his stint at Bramall Lane.

They gained promotion with the South Yorkshire club last year under their former manager, Paul Heckingbottom, who is now at Preston North End.

However, Sheffield United was relegated from the top division last season after finishing in the bottom three alongside Luton Town and Burnley, and his contract terminated in late June.

That allowed Derby County to step in and bring him back to where he started.

What next for Derby County?

Warne will not want to risk Osborn against Cardiff City if he isn’t fully fit.

If he is ready, there is no reason why he shouldn’t be thrown back in.

Their prospective opponents are yet to win in this campaign under Turkish manager Erol Bulut.
