Tyrese Fornah, a former Reading midfielder, has joined League Two on loan with Salford City, two months after gaining promotion to the Championship with Derby County.

The 24-year-old spent time in the Royals’ academy before joining Nottingham Forest in 2019 and making four appearances for the Reds.

Fornah, an athletic midfielder with loan spells in Italy and the EFL, played 2022/23 with Reading, scoring twice in 37 appearances.

The Sierra Leone international joined Derby County from Nottingham Forest, where he featured 23 times as the Rams gained promotion back to the Championship as runners-up the previous season.

However, the London native will not have the opportunity to play in the second division this season, as he is loaned to Salford.

Speaking to the club website upon his arrival, he stated: “It’s about smiling, enjoying football, and being on the pitch; that’s why I play football, to have moments expressing myself and helping my team win three points; winning is fun, but playing with a smile on your face is what it’s all about. I came here to share that delight with the supporters, enjoy some nice moments, and hopefully gain a promotion this year.

“The club’s objective is to move up, which is also my ambition; I believe this is a team that is more than capable of being promoted. I believe that with the lads, the skill that I’ve seen in the team, and the game I witnessed last night, there is plenty of ability and potential to succeed this year. That’s their ambition; it’s mine, so let’s get started!”
