Delia Smith ‘saddened’ by the lack of an apology from Ipswich Town following…

Delia Smith, co-owner of Norwich City, said she was “saddened” that Ipswich Town had not apologized after her car was hit by a can of lager outside their stadium.

As the celebrity chef arrived for a derby match at Portman Road on December 16, fans chanted “scum” and a can hit the bonnet.

The 82-year-old thanked opposing supporters for their expressions of support in a statement, but appeared to criticize the club for not speaking out.

Ipswich Town declined to respond.

Other missiles appeared to be hurled at the BMW as it approached the ground slowly, escorted by police and security.

Ipswich supporters had congregated outside the stadium to welcome the arrival of the coach transporting the home team’s players and coaching personnel.

Smith arrived in his automobile shortly after the coach went through the gathering.

At the Championship league game, which concluded in a 2-2 draw, Suffolk Police made two unrelated arrests.

‘Flowers to apologise’

Smith and her husband, Michael Wynn Jones, issued their first statement on the event on Friday.

“Delia and Michael would like to thank all the Ipswich Town supporters who are still sending messages of support, and even flowers, after the event to apologise for what took place at the derby match,” the statement stated.

“There has been a very good relationship with Ipswich Town during our tenure of 28 years, and we are saddened that we are yet to receive a public apology.”

The couple are joint majority shareholders at Norwich City, along with Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, who joined the Norwich City board in September 2021.
