Danilo has issued an update on social media after breaking his ankle during Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday, reassuring fans that he is “fine”.

Danilo, Nottingham Forest’s key player, has claimed that he is “fine” after suffering a horrific injury in their Premier League opener against Bournemouth, which left his teammates distraught.

Only eight minutes into the game, Danilo challenged Antoine Semenyo for the ball in the air, causing the Brazilian to land awkwardly on his left leg. The game was halted for around ten minutes as he received treatment on the field, with blankets arranged around him for privacy.

Danilo was finally stretchered off with his leg in a splint, and the 23-year-old has since provided an update on his condition. “Hi, folks. I’m just stopping by to let you know that I’m fine, thank God, and I’m already home,” he stated in an Instagram story.

“We’ll be back shortly. Thank you for all of your kind words.” Danilo was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for additional treatment, and Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has subsequently disclosed that he broke his ankle.

“It was a horrible moment for everybody, he has broken his ankle,” he told me. “It is serious; we will miss him, and not just on the pitch. He’s a beautiful boy. He is always smiling, full of excitement, and we wish him the best.

“He is really popular among everyone. He is just leaving the hospital and will be checked tomorrow. The situation is serious, but the good news is that he is stable. He’s speaking and aware; he simply needs time.

When the game resumed, Forest took the lead through Chris Wood, but Semenyo scored a late equaliser to give Bournemouth a draw. Semenyo revealed after the game that he didn’t recall anything about Danilo’s injury.

“I just remember getting an elbow to the back of my head and landing on my arm. I didn’t think anything of it but then I got up and saw he was being stretchered off. Sorry to him and I hope he [Danilo] recovers well.

“For 90 minutes you have to concentrate anyway, regardless of injuries. As soon as I got up everybody tried to boost my moral and confidence to keep going, I have to thank my teammates for that.

“As a team we knew we had to come out in the second half and make a difference. We’ll take a point and on to the next.”
