Dan Campbell strikes back at the NFL for blaming the Lions for the eligibility debacle

Dan Campbell, head coach of the Detroit Lions, is dissatisfied with the NFL’s reported attitude on his team’s recent eligibility controversy.

The Lions’ go-ahead 2-point conversion was wiped out in the last minute of Saturday’s 20-19 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The officials punished Detroit for reporting the wrong offensive tackle as an eligible receiver on the play — Dan Skipper rather than Taylor Decker (video here).

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the NFL blamed the Lions’ attempt “to engage in deception and gamesmanship,” which “backfired” on them.

Campbell addressed the report during a radio interview on 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday.

“Defenses disguise coverage, isn’t that deception?” Campbell told Will Burchfield of 97.1 The Ticket. “So what the hell?”

Despite his continued dissatisfaction with the eligibility difficulties, Campbell appeared ready to move on during his Monday press conference. The Lions coach even went so far as to call the ordeal a “blessing” in disguise.
