Dan Campbell discussed the preseason and team’s starting quarterback.
The Detroit Lions, like many other NFL teams, are expected to hold out many key players throughout the preseason.
Detroit’s fourth-year head coach told SiriusXM NFL Radio that the three preseason games will provide young players a chance to show off what they’ve been working on during training camp.
“The preseason is, it’s a chance to really develop the young guys,” he remarked. “That’s what I actually see. And then there are some battles that need to be resolved in the preseason game. I believe there’s a big chance you won’t see anyone — you can probably guess who those players are. I don’t see Goff playing this preseason. I do not see Sewell. You can guess who those people are. I believe this is an opportunity to develop our young players. “A chance for Hendon Hooker to gain valuable experience.”

Campbell believes the former No. 1 overall pick will continue to improve and has more to offer the franchise.
“He found a home, correct? “And he found it with us,” Campbell explained. “And, he was supposed to be here. We were all intended to be together, at the proper time, to accomplish something. “He’s accepted everything about it.”
Campbell, who previously worked with Drew Brees in New Orleans, sees similarities with Goff’s ability to think three steps ahead.
“Someone asked me yesterday what else he could do given the type of player he is. How much more can, and how much more is there? I feel there’s more in there. “He’s an accurate passer, and his understanding of the game has improved year after year,” Campbell said. “We’re getting to the stage where I believe he’s three steps ahead, which is the maximum amount of progress a quarterback can achieve. Now you’re talking about Drew Brees-type athletes, assuming you can get there. That is what he still needs to achieve, and I believe it has grown with each passing year.”
