Contract details: Colts S receives $3.19M guaranteed

Indianapolis Colts Safety Julian Blackmon has officially signed his one-year contract to return to the squad, and we now have the facts.

Though it took longer than planned, the Colts and Blackmon were finally reunited. That was even after he paid visits to the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers during NFL free agency.

Blackmon and the Colts agreed to a one-year contract for $3.7 million. The 25-year-old safety will earn $3.19 million guaranteed, including a $1.865 million signing bonus. Blackmon will also receive $30,000 in per-game roster bonuses, for a total of $510,000.

Blackmon’s base salary for the 2024 season is $1.325 million, with a total cap figure of $3.89 million. That is 1.5% of the team’s salary cap in 2024. He can also receive $250,000 in incentives that were deemed “likely to be earned.”

Blackmon will return to his role as the strong safety with Nick Cross and Rodney Thomas II battling it out on the free safety side.

The former third-round pick had a career year in 2023, recording career-high marks in tackles (88), solo tackles (55), tackles for loss (five), interceptions (four) and passes defensed (eight).

According to Pro Football Focus, Blackmon also excelled in covering. He gave up a 70.5% reception rate and a 57.5 passer rating on 44 targets.
