Confirmed: Oklahoma QB makes transfer move…
On Saturday night, Oklahoma’s third-string quarterback from the 2023 season entered the portal.
On Saturday night, a late addition to the transfer gateway was removed.
247Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer confirmed that Oklahoma quarterback Davis Beville has officially submitted his name into the portal. Beville joined the Sooners after transferring from Pittsburgh following the 2021 season.
Beville’s playing time with Oklahoma has been limited, as he served as Dillon Gabriel’s backup in 2022 and as the Sooners’ third string quarterback behind Gabriel and Jackson Arnold this season. His lone start in a Sooners uniform was memorable, but not for the right reasons.
Gabriel was knocked out with a head injury in the previous week’s game against TCU, thus Beville substituted in for him in the 2022 Red River Showdown against Texas. Oklahoma, of course, was blown out 49-0 by the Longhorns, with the game serving as a rallying factor for the team throughout the summer, leading to the club’s historic revenge win over its despised foe in the 2023 edition of the game back in October.
Beville appeared in just two games this season and did not attempt a pass, instead rushing three times for seven yards. With his choice, it’s safe to assume that Arnold’s backup in next week’s Alamo Bowl versus Arizona will be fellow transfer General Booty.
Beville will be in his sixth year of college football after redshirting the 2019 season and the 2020 season not counting against a player’s years of eligibility. So, after three seasons with Pittsburgh and two with Oklahoma, he’ll attempt to finish his career somewhere else, likely for a chance to play.
As the year 2024 approaches, speculation over who will serve as Arnold’s backup has begun, with incoming freshman Michael Hawkins widely regarded as the leading option. With Beville moving on to a new program, Hawkins is clearly the best candidate for the post right now. Time will tell if Brent Venables, Seth Littrell, and company attempt to add to the room this summer via the transfer window.
Beville joins Dillon Gabriel, Tawee Walker, Marcus Major, Daylan Smothers, Jason Llewellyn, D.J. Graham, Savion Byrd, Nate Anderson, Marcus Hicks, Reggie Grimes, Key Lawrence, Kelvin Gilliam, Aaryn Parks, and Cayden Green as the 15th player from Oklahoma to enter the transfer portal this offseason.
