Confirmed: Dolphins’ running back is set to be ‘inactive’ against the Ravens

The NFL’s leading scorer missed much of the week’s practice, but his availability never looked in doubt.

De’Von Achane, Jeff Wilson, and Chris Brooks will now shoulder the majority of the workload in Baltimore.

The Miami Dolphins will be without starter running back (and touchdown machine) Raheem Mostert against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, possibly their most important game of the 2023 season. Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapaport of NFL Network were the first to report the news on X, then known as Twitter.

(Despite consistently appearing on the injury report during the season, this will be Mostert’s first game absence this season.)

Mostert, 31, has had an outstanding season with Miami, running for 1,012 yards and scoring a league-high 18 touchdowns (21 total). It has unquestionably been the best season of his roller-coaster career. To say Miami’s offense won’t be the same without ‘Heem” in the lineup on Sunday would be an understatement. However, as we’ve seen with prior roster injuries, it’s a “next man up” mindset. Fortunately, Miami has a stable of running backs who have demonstrated they can handle the strain.

With Mostert out, Miami’s offense will rely primarily on rookie running back De’Von Achane, who has had a fantastic rookie season, rushing 79 times for 637 yards and seven touchdowns. He can also contribute in the passing game.

Aside from Achane, veteran running back Jeff Wilson Jr. — who put the game away against the Dallas Cowboys last week — and undrafted rookie Chris Brooks should be active and eager for touches.

Whatever, this is the NFL, and every team is hurt at this stage in the season. If Miami wants to show the world that they belong among the #elite and should be taken seriously, a New Year’s Eve beating in Baltimore should do the trick. #FinsUp #NoExcuses #QuoteTheDolphinsNeverMore
