Confirmed: club reveals of holding ‘conversations with Tottenham’ over a striker

Tottenham are now in negotiations with Ipswich Town about recalling Dane Scarlett in January, according to Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna.

Scarlett is regarded as a future first-team prospect by many at Tottenham, with Ange Postecoglou revealing in August that he loved what he saw from the striker on the training ground (Football.London).

The decision was taken to loan the teenager to Ipswich in order for him to obtain game time, but that has not worked out for the 19-year-old, who has came on as a substitute in all 12 of his Championship appearances this season.

The Tractor Boys have significantly outperformed expectations this season, presently sitting second in the table, which has made it difficult for the England Under-21 international to gain a look-in.

Scarlett could be returning to Tottenham.

Spurs have contacted the club regarding Scarlett, and the North London club is likely to recall the player, according to McKenna.

He told BBC Radio Suffolk (via East Anglian Daily Times) about the striker’s future: “There are currently discussions with Tottenham.” In my opinion, he is quite likely to be recalled.

“Tottenham are currently dealing with injury issues, and their main forward [Son Heung-min] will be competing in the Asian Cup at the start of January.”

“So there have been discussions over the last few days and there’s a fair chance that he’ll be recalled from the start of January.”

Scarlett would have gained a lot from his experience at Portman Road Stadium, according to McKenna, despite the fact that he did not get any starts.

“He’s a really talented player, and we enjoyed having him here,” the 37-year-old added. He arrived late in the window after a chaotic pre-season with no minutes played, so he was always going to be playing catch-up.

“Because the players who have been playing have done so well, he hasn’t gotten as many starts as he would have liked.” However, he has made 12 appearances at the very top of the league.

“He’s made some valuable contributions for us.” I believe he has gained a lot from the environment and his time at the club, and I believe he will return a stronger player, and we hope to see good things from him in the future.”

I doubt Tottenham’s decision to recall Scarlett was influenced by Son’s participation in the Asian Cup. I believe it is due to the youngster’s lack of playing time, and I fully anticipate Spurs to loan the 19-year-old to a side further down the Championship table for the remainder of the season.
