Confirmed: 3-Star OT Signs with Ohio State Buckeyes

Deontae Armstrong signed his letter of intent on Wednesday, bolstering the Ohio State Buckeyes’ offensive line.

The Ohio State Buckeyes’ offensive line has been strengthened another again.

Deontae Armstrong, a three-star offensive tackle, signed his letter of intent early Wednesday morning, becoming the third offensive lineman to pledge to the Buckeyes that day.

The Lakewood, Ohio native is a graduate of St. Edward High School, where he recently won the 2023 Division 1 Football State Championship. Armstrong was a highly sought-after recruit, garnering offers from schools such as Penn State and Michigan.

Ohio State’s offensive line was chastised for many weak performances this season, including the season opener against Indiana and the season finale against then-No. 3 Michigan. The Buckeyes’ offensive line was not exclusively to blame for their underwhelming performance against the Hoosiers and defeat to the Wolverines, but they were certainly not at their best in those games.

Armstrong arrives at a time when senior leaders such as Josh Fryar (graduation) and Jakob James (transfer portal) are leaving. Armstrong might be one of the young leaders who establishes himself as a position room voice throughout offseason camp and the upcoming season.

Armstrong is just a half-inch shy of 6-foot-6, with a 270-pound physique to match. Armstrong is one of the lighter members of the Ohio State offensive line, which will undoubtedly change once he arrives in Columbus.

The quickness with which Armstrong plays the game is something Buckeyes offensive line coach Justin Frye hopes will not change. Armstrong compensates for his lack of size in comparison to other college linemen (for the time being) by defeating them with his feet at the line of scrimmage.
