Colts TE discusses the sadness of the 2023 season

The 2023 NFL season ended in agony for the Indianapolis Colts, when C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans came to Lucas Oil Stadium and stole the AFC South championship and a playoff position from the Horseshoe.

If the Colts won that Week 18 primetime game, they would hang another division title banner. Kylen Granson, Colts tight end, joined The Ride With JMV in studio on Thursday to discuss how the season ended.

JMV mentioned the Colts’ late fourth quarter fourth-and-two blunder in Week 18, which could have set the team up to beat Houston and win the division, but then asked the 6’3 TE if there were any other games throughout the season that he sees as a major reason for the Colts’ absence from the playoff.

“Cleveland,” Granson answered, referring to the late-game sequence in which backup quarterback P.J. Walker led the Browns down the field in the fourth quarter to score the game-winning touchdown and win the game. During the last drive, two controversial pass interference penalties were thrown against the Colts secondary, giving Cleveland a second and third chance to win the game.

“I was concussed that week, but I still watched it. I cannot agree with the call; it cost us the game. But I believe there were several games that were clearly on us as well. We didn’t play very well in some games, and it showed. We always have a tendency to start slowly, for whatever reason. Every year I’ve been here, we start out slow and then pick up speed.”

Granson and JMV then discuss why the former SMU tight end was unable to attend his NFL Combine a couple years ago, how he intends to spend his offseason, how his upbringing differs from JMV’s, and the community service initiative Granson is running with Kroger. Like last year, the Hoosier native is organizing a book drive. His nonprofit, KG’s Kids, has partnered with local Kroger stores to distribute books to schools.
