Colts sign 5th round WR to rookie contract

The Colts have signed another member of the 2024 NFL Draft Class, leaving only one rookie unsigned.

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that they had signed Oregon State wide receiver/return specialist Anthony Gould to a rookie contract.

Gould, who is 5’8″ and weighs 174 pounds, was selected by the Colts in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft with Pick #142. He is expected to be the team’s primary special teams returnman on both kickoffs and punt returns, as well as a backup vertical threat and ‘gadget’ weapon on jet sweeps and wide receiver screens in Indy head coach Shane Steichen’s innovative offense.

In 2023, Gould had 44 receptions for 718 receiving yards (16.3 ypr. average.) and two touchdown grabs for the Beavers offense, while averaging 16.1 yards on punt returns.

The Colts were in desperate need of a special teams returnman improvement, and with kickoff becoming a more competitive football play with new rule changes in 2024, it’s easy to see why they felt safe picking Gould in the fifth round.

The Colts have already signed eight of their nine rookie draft picks, with fellow rookie wideout AD Mitchell of Texas remaining the Colts’ only unsigned rookie to far.
