Anthony Richardson, the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, will miss Week 4’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Richardson was hit in the red zone near the end of the first quarter, leaving him grasping at his left hip. He initially left the game after only a few plays. On his first play back on the field, he was hit again on a quarterback run and struggled to get up. The second-year quarterback went to the locker room after leaving the game due to a second severe hit.

Indianapolis had earlier categorized Richardson as questionable to return due to a hip issue. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, the Colts declared him out for the rest of the game.

The gunslinger has had awful injury luck in his first few NFL outings. During his rookie season in 2023, Richardson sustained a concussion in Week 2 and a season-ending AC joint sprain in Week 5.

Here’s the latest on the Colts’ signal-caller:

Anthony Richardson injury update

Richardson went to the locker room in the first quarter against the Steelers after being hit on a quarterback run. The departure occurred two plays after a brief absence following a hit three plays prior that left the second-year gunslinger clutching his hip.

With 10 minutes left in the first half, the Colts declared Richardson out for the rest of the game.

Indianapolis feels its quarterback sustained a “hip pointer” during their 27-24 victory over the Steelers. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) describes the injury as “a bruise near the top curve of the hip bone.”

UPMC also states that the primary therapies for the injuries are rest, ice, and compression.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the Colts are hopeful that Richardson will lose little to no time due to his hip pointer injury. He will be evaluated during the week.

Colts quarterback depth chart

With Richardson out of the game, the Colts’ depth chart at quarterback looks like this:

  1. Anthony Richardson (OUT, hip injury)
  2. Joe Flacco
  3. Sam Ehlinger (emergency backup)
