Colts promote CB from the practice squad to the active roster

It looks like the Colts are adding more depth at cornerback to make up for lost plays on special teams.

Prior to their Sunday game against the Carolina Panthers, the Indianapolis Colts announced on Saturday that cornerback Chris Lammons has been moved from the team’s practice squad to the active roster.

The 27-year-old cornerback has played in only one game this season for the Colts, collecting a tackle, after serving a three-game suspension to start the season.

Throughout his five-year professional career, Lammons has mostly been recognized for his special teams prowess, so it’s plausible that the Colts are merely trying to add some depth there, especially with Tony Brown receiving a promotion to a more prominent position at cornerback.

Given Brown’s troubles over the weekend, it’s possible that the Colts would be open to giving Lammons a chance to play cornerback himself. If there are comparable initial results, trying anything could be preferable to sticking with last week’s alternative.
