Colts must trade this star receiver- Opinion

The Indianapolis Colts could use another exceptional wide receiver, and Terry McLaurin is the perfect candidate.

McLaurin, who is currently with the Washington Commanders, has not yet requested a trade. But that doesn’t mean the Commanders won’t try to move him in spring.

According to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, Washington General Manager Adam Peters may consider dealing veterans like Jonathan Allen for draft capital.

“While Washington has nine picks in the 2024 draft—four in the top 67—it could use more to overhaul a pockmarked lineup. Dealing veterans to free up salary-cap space and add more draft capital to the offers should be a priority for Peters. Due to this shift in focus, Jonathan Allen, the team’s standout defensive tackle, could be on the way out after seven seasons with the club.”

The Commanders may indeed carry out a full-fledged rebuild and throw McLaurin on the trade block. If that happens, the Colts will need to reach an agreement.

The Indianapolis Colts should trade for Terry McLaurin.

Indy Native Has Had an Impressive Career

McLaurin was born and reared in Indy. He attended Cathedral High School and grew up on the city’s northwest side before becoming Indiana’s “Mr. Football” in 2013. He also attended Colts games, sitting in Section 540 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

McLaurin attended Ohio State University for collegiate football. During his stint with Ohio State, he caught 75 passes for 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Colts passed on McLaurin at the 2019 NFL Draft. They chose his college classmate and roommate Parris Campbell with the 59th overall pick. Meanwhile, McLaurin finished 76th overall among the Commanders.

McLaurin was chosen to the PFWA’s All-Rookie Team. He has 58 receptions for 919 yards and seven touchdowns that season.

The 2023 Pro-Bowler has accumulated 1,000 receiving yards in each of the previous four years. He is the only player in team history to achieve this distinction.

Why the Colts should acquire Terry McLaurin

McLaurin discussed the Commanders’ dismal season, which ended with a 4-13 record, after a Week 17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

“It’s definitely tough,” he said, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. “I mean, you want to be a part of something that is sustainable, and you’re winning and competing at a high level.”
