Colts may reunite with long time veteran guard

A former Colts guard starter is allegedly being released, raising the possibility of a reunion.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the New York Giants are releasing veteran starting offensive lineman Mark Glowinski, raising the possibility that his former team, the Indianapolis Colts, may be interested in a reunion.

Now, the Colts’ situation at right guard has improved considerably in a year, as Will Fries has established the starting spot—which was a concern the year before, when Indianapolis attempted (and failed) to replace Glowinski with more natural center Danny Pinter.

Glowinski played 29 games for the Giants after leaving the Colts two years ago, starting 22 of them. He previously made 55 starts for the Colts as a reliable guard from 2018 to 2021.

Glowinski was the 25th best offensive guard according to PFF (subscription), with a +64.8 overall grade and a +69.6 run blocking grade this past year.

Turning 32 in May, his free agent market may be less than robust, but he appears to be a starting-caliber veteran guard in this league.

My belief is that he’ll sign with a different team where he has a better chance of becoming a starter, whereas in Indianapolis, that would likely require an interior injury—since Fries is well set as the starting right guard this season.

However, if his market is limited, Glowinski may be able to rejoin his former o-line teammates in Indianapolis as a veteran backup with a wealth of starting experience (and a formidable run blocker), as well as Colts offensive line coach Tony Sparano Jr.—who also coached him as an assistant with the Giants in 2022.
