Colts have announced a flurry of roster changes to begin the 2024 offseason

As the 2024 offseason begins, the Indianapolis Colts are already making roster adjustments.

The Indianapolis Colts haven’t slept since losing to the Houston Texans on Saturday, thereby eliminating their playoff hopes. They’ve made multiple roster moves as they prepare for the 2024 season.

The Colts made the following roster moves on Monday:

Waived:

CB Tony Brown

Signed to one-year contract extensions:

CB Darrell Baker Jr.
S Trevor Denbow
LB Cameron McGrone
LB Segun Olubi

Signed to reserve/future contracts:

LB Austin Ajiake
LB Liam Anderson
WR Tyrie Cleveland
S Marcel Dabo
WR Ethan Fernea
G Arlington Hambright
TE Jordan Murray
RB Zavier Scott
TE Eric Tomlinson

While there are multiple names on this list, a couple jump out, beginning with two players on reserve/future contracts: running back Zavier Scott and safety Marcel Dabo.

Scott is a 6’1″, 219-pound do-it-all weapon who played RB, wide receiver, and even quarterback at the University of Maine. He hasn’t found his footing yet. That may change with a play-caller like Shane Steichen.

Dabo was added to the Indianapolis roster via the International Player Pathway Program. Dabo played professionally in the European League of Football, and his exceptional athleticism drew the notice of Chris Ballard and other scouts. He, like Scott, hasn’t had much time on the field. However, considering how injuries happen and opportunities arise, he could reach the pinnacle in 2024. If not, he might end up on the practice squad.

When it comes to one-year contract extensions, defensive back Darrel Baker Jr. stands out the most. Linebacker Segun Olubi may be included in this category, although he performed admirably considering his circumstances, recording 26 tackles and an interception in 15 games and two starts this season. Olubi will most certainly see playing time in 2024.

Baker had a hard 2023 at times, but he also didn’t see much on the field and could be more for competitive purposes in the off-season. Baker started six games and appeared in 14 total this season, recording 35 tackles and seven passes defensed.

Corner Tony Brown’s waiving isn’t surprising in the least. During the season, he and pass-catcher Isaiah McKenzie were suspended by the Colts for unsportsmanlike conduct.

While Brown was a fine special teams player in Indianapolis for a few seasons, he was a disaster as a cornerback when given the opportunity to flourish, which is his position title. In 2024, he plans to hunt out a new NFL suitor.
