The Indianapolis Colts were dealt a harsh setback when starting right guard Will Fries sustained a season-ending injury in Week 6.

Though Fries has since been placed on the Reserve/Injured list and replaced by undrafted free agency rookie Dalton Tucker, the Colts may want to add more of an experienced presence to their offensive line.

In Bleacher Report’s weekly rankings for Week 7, Alex Ballentine urged the Colts’ front management to trade for Chicago Bears offensive lineman Nate Davis this season. In their most recent game, a 20-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans, the Colts did not surrender a sack.

“Elsewhere, Nate Davis was benched in Chicago. The Bears may be inclined to release the veteran after he failed to fulfill his contract obligations. It’s hardly the best scenario for the Colts, but Davis is at least an experienced veteran with a solid track record of success,” Ballentine said.

Through the first ten games of the season, the Colts’ offensive line has allowed only 10 sacks, ranking fourth in the NFL. Indianapolis still has the seventh-lowest overall QB pressures allowed.

Davis is in his sixth year of NFL play, although he has only started six games this season. Prior to 2024, Davis never played fewer than 88% of total offensive snaps. During his brief career in the NFL, he has only allowed 18 sacks.

He agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract with the Bears during the 2023 offseason. Davis has one year remaining on his contract after the 2024 season, and with Fries potentially going in free agency next offseason, this may not be such a horrible move after all.
