Colts could land two time Super Bowl Champ

Could cornerback L’Jarius Sneed join the Indianapolis Colts? The team needs to improve its youthful defensive secondary, and acquiring a veteran like him would be a sensible decision for the franchise.

Sneed is a free agent this summer. The Kansas City Chiefs are poised to apply their franchise tag to him. He has, however, been given the option of seeking a trade, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. If Sneed and the Chiefs are unable to reach a long-term agreement, a tag-and-trade transaction may occur.

Sneed is one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks. Having said that, other teams should be interested in acquiring him. Will the Colts take him up?

The Colts should consider trading for L’Jarius Sneed, who had a successful NFL career thus far.

Kansas City chose Sneed in the fourth round (138th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. As a rookie, the Louisiana Tech product started six out of nine games. He recorded three interceptions, seven passes defensed, two sacks, and 41 tackles.

Sneed’s 2022 season may have been his greatest ever. He started all 17 games and recorded three interceptions, 3.5 sacks, 11 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and 108 tackles. Sneed also had two passes defended and 17 tackles in the playoffs. That year, he led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl alongside talents Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

In 2023, Sneed had two interceptions, 14 passes defensed, one fumble recovery, and 78 tackles. He recorded three pass breakups, 17 tackles, and Forced fumble in the postseason. The Chiefs would go on to win another Super Bowl. They became the first club to win consecutive games since the New England Patriots in 2004.

Why Should the Colts Get L’Jarius Sneed?
This season, the Colts ranked in the middle of the pack in terms of passing yards allowed. While the team may not necessarily have the league’s worst secondary, they should try to improve it this offseason.

Julius Brents and Jaylon Jones, rookies, performed well for Indianapolis in 2023. Dallis Flowers, who is coming off an injury-plagued season, will return in 2024. Still, the team has to get another cornerback.

Kenny Moore II, the Colts’ finest player at the position, is a free agent and may sign with another team. If he left, the squad will require a long-term answer to get started on the opposite side of Brents.

Sneed would be the ideal choice. The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder is a versatile defender. He can cover peripheral receivers and is one of the league’s top blitzing corners.

This previous season, Sneed did an excellent job securing elite wide receivers. Tyreek Hill caught eight catches totaling 62 yards in Week 9.

He then had five catches for 62 yards and a touchdown in the AFC Wild Card Round. Sneed also helped shut down Justin Jefferson (3 for 28 yards), A.J. Brown (1-8) and finally Brandon Aiyuk (3-49) In the Super Bowl.

To get Sneed, Indianapolis would most likely have to trade a selection or two. If you follow the Colts, you know that general manager Chris Ballard isn’t known for making bold decisions. However, dealing for a reliable veteran like Sneed is something he should explore.
