Following roster cuts, the Indianapolis Colts continue to bolster their practice squad by signing kicker Spencer Shrader.

We have added K Spencer Shrader to our practice squad.

Following the April draft, the Colts signed Shrader as an undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame. Teams frequently carry a second kicker during training camp so that their primary kicker does not have to manage every try over the summer.

During the preseason, Shrader played in the first and third games. He went 2-for-2 on field goals against Cincinnati, including a 56-yarder. Shrader made four extra-point attempts.

He will now have the option to continue his development on the practice squad throughout the season. While Matt Gay struggled during the preseason, making only one of his four field goal attempts, his status as starting kicker was never in threat. Both Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard have voiced their belief in him.

“No,” said Ballard on Wednesday when asked if he had any concerns. “Good kicker. Really good kicker.”
