After a terrible 5-7 season, BYU is eager to rebound.

Cougar Head Coach Kalani Sitake said the team is motivated by last year’s losing season, the coaching staff benefits from a year of Big12 experience, and defensive coordinator Jay Hill will improve in his second year with the program. Sitake told Adam Mikulich at the Big12 Media Days in Las Vegas that position fights will strengthen the team’s defensive line, wide receiver, and quarterback positions.

Kalani also believes that adding a western wing to the conference will help BYU develop rivalries and minimize travel time. Watch Kalani Sitake’s chat with Adam Mikulich here.

Other BYU interviews:

Kalani Sitake, BYU’s head football coach, sponsored his annual media appreciation tournament this week. After the ceremony, Sitake and other coaches and players discussed reviving the rivalry with Utah Football, as both teams will compete in the BIG-12 this season. BYU and Utah will play on November 9th at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The start time is TBD.

Crew Wakely followed an unorthodox journey to the starting safety position at BYU. The former Jordan High quarterback committed to Utah State under Matt Wells, but when he returned from his church mission, Gary Andersen was the Aggies’ head coach. However, Gary was immediately replaced by Blake Anderson. Wakely switched to defense and later transferred to BYU. Wakely discusses the differences between offense and defense, as well as the distinctions between Group of 5 and Power 4 football.
