Cleveland Browns aiming $1 billion stadium renovation project

Cleveland Browns Stadium, formerly known as First Energy Stadium, opened in 1999 and has been the home of the local NFL club ever since. But it’s time to renovate the Cleveland Browns’ home.

Cleveland Browns Stadium could get expensive overhaul

After 25 seasons of playing football at the Dawg Pound, the Cleveland Browns apparently attempted to sell the city council on a huge stadium restoration project last October.

According to reports, the Browns were asking $500 to $600 million in public financing, which would cover nearly half of the $1 billion to $1.2 billion that a stadium may cost, according to members. The Haslam Sports Group’s proposal included funding the remaining half of the stadium’s renovation costs.

No agreement has been announced. The Browns are still looking for a long-term solution to improve the football fan experience in Cleveland, which might include shifting stadium locations in Northeast Ohio and other nearby locales.
