Christophe Dugarry discusses Birmingham City’s hope following ‘conversation’ with club bosses

Christophe Dugarry has committed to support the Blues in their pursuit of promotion, saying, “I have Birmingham City in my heart.”

The French World Cup winner returned to B9 over the weekend to compete in BluesFest, where his squad of ex-professionals, celebrities, and influencers defeated a Barry Fry-managed side. Dugarry is warmly remembered in these parts for his brief stint at St Andrew’s during the club’s early Premier League years under Steve Bruce.

Dugarry, who had joined the Blues on loan from Bordeaux in January, scored five goals in four consecutive victories in April 2003 as the team secured its top flight position. While his second season at St Andrew’s was less successful, Dugarry has a particular place in the hearts of Bluenoses fans.

He paid a visit to the Second City following the Blues’ relegation to League One, although he spoke positively about the club’s future after meeting with some of Knighthead’s leadership team.

“I was told of a new project with new management, which I will closely monitor. “That makes me very happy,” Dugarry added.

“I care about this club, despite the fact that I only played here for approximately a year. I hold Birmingham City in high regard, so I will continue to pay close attention to your activities.

“I hope the club will return to the Premier League.” I am confident they will do so because of the expertise of those involved. The fans here deserve to have a Premier League club, and I’ve been delighted to communicate with the new management.”
