Chiefs Officially Sign First Super Rookie From 2024 Draft Class

CB Kamal Hadden, the Chiefs’ sixth-round choice, has officially signed his rookie deal, which pays a total of $4.158 million plus a $138,388 signing bonus.

It’s a significant step for the former Tennessee standout, and he hopes to follow in the footsteps of prior late-round defensive backs who have thrived in Kansas City.

On paper, Hadden appears to be an ideal fit for Steve Spagnuolo’s approach. His physical appearance is strikingly similar to L’Jarius Sneed’s, and he excels at press coverage. He led the Volunteers with three interceptions in 2023 and can also rush the passer, demonstrating the diversified skill set that Spagnuolo values.

Hadden struggled with injuries during his college career, but if he can remain healthy, he’ll be a steal in the draft.

Hadden has the opportunity to earn snaps rapidly. He has extensive special teams expertise and plays with outstanding physicality. Opposing quarterbacks posted a 31.7 passer rating when targeting Hadden, and he is skilled at swatting the ball down at the catch point.

Brett Veach recently drafted mid-to-late-round corners Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson, and even Sneed himself, all of whom have proven to be successful players. Hadden has every opportunity to become the latest example if he can stay healthy.

Kansas City’s secondary will confront a significant challenge in replacing Sneed this season. He was one of the NFL’s most dominant cover corners, and his versatility benefited everyone around him. Trent McDuffie, Williams, Watson, Chamarri Conner, and eventually Hadden will have to step up to fill Sneed’s shoes.

For the time being, this is a significant accomplishment for Hadden and the first of many important stages in his NFL career. Fingers crossed that he stays on the field and flourishes at Kansas City.
