The Kansas City Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars is quickly approaching, and one of the biggest mysteries is who will start at left tackle.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with the media after Friday’s practice on NFL Draft second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia’s training camp performance.

“He’s working with those starters and doing a nice job there,” Reid told reporters. “He is working very hard on the subjects we are attempting to teach him. He has learned a lot of new stuff, and he is playing fiercely and improving on a daily basis. He is not taking steps back, which is critical. He has the opportunity to compete against good players, which is very crucial.”

Suamataia was periodically joined at left tackle by Wanya Morris, who also played guard on Friday. Reid dismissed the notion that Morris would soon shift roles and explained why he did not make the same move with Suamataia.

“Well, I think being a rookie here, you probably leave him in one spot for right now,” pointed out Reid. But soon, he’ll be able to do everything.”

The choice to choose a starting at left tackle will remain a top priority for everyone in camp, as the preseason is typically the finest live audition for players.
