Omari Hutchinson came to Ipswich Town from Chelsea in the summer and has done brilliantly this season.

The attacker signed a loan deal with Chelsea for the 2023/24 season to help him grow following a dearth of first-team opportunities in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Hutchinson is clearly developing well under Kieran McKenna, and it may be in his best interests to stay at Portman Road for another season, either on loan or permanently, if Chelsea is willing to sell the young Jamaica international.

Hutchinson is only 20 years old and can play as a wide striker or attacking midfielder, making him a suitable fit for a variety of positions in McKenna’s squad.

Hutchinson, on the other hand, has started only 14 of Ipswich’s 38 games in all competitions, primarily as a right-sided attacker who cuts in with his left foot.

Ipswich’s injury issues

Ipswich were handed two huge blows ahead of their trip to Plymouth Argyle this weekend, with Wes Burns and Nathan Broadhead both out due to muscular strains.

In January, however, Ipswich made significant efforts to strengthen their attacking lineup. McKenna will also have the option of signing two recent Premier League newcomers, Jeremy Sarmiento and Kieffer Moore.

Hutchinson’s recent efforts have seen him start more frequently, with five goals or assists in the previous five Championship games, which will be of considerable interest to Chelsea, who must make a decision on Hutchinson’s future soon.

Burns has been great this season, but Hutchinson is more naturally gifted, and it is evident that both McKenna and Chelsea value the youngster, who will almost certainly be given a regular starting berth this weekend.
